There will be a Kumbabishekam, spiritual renewal of the temple, at Ramanasramam in Tiruvannamalai on 23 – 25 August of this year.
I have not seen a schedule, but I believe that on the 23rd and 24th there will be chanting, poojas, and, homas (fire sacrifices). Probably they will start in the early morning, and continue all day. On these two days, spiritual energy will be absorbed in the water of special Purna Kumbhas, “Pots of plenty,” that are the focus during these days. On the third day, the main god of the Matrubhuteswara temple will be renewed, and then again shine forth from the temple tower. This final day will probably culminate about mid-day, with the pouring of the energized holy water onto the Kalasa atop the tower above Mother’s Shrine.

This is a special celebration at Ramanasramam. Please attend if you can, because these only happen about every 12 years. The highlight is on the 25th of August.

I often wonder what Ramana would make of this sort of thing. Usually I just guess that he would simply go along with it all, maybe have taken interest to some degree.

Ramana was very involved with the building of his mother’s temple. As such, they would have performed the first Kumbabishekam at the completion of the temple. I am sure that he was involved in this (even though I have never read about it. Maybe someone reading this knows more?).
